David started in the 1970s, attending massage courses, and learning herbal medicine, iridology, and reflexology.

An interest in self-sufficiency, first motivated by the cold-war, lead to a passion for herbal medicine, membership of Nature's Sunshine, and the purchase of 4 hectares, just out of Invercargill, in 1979, for what was to be a herbfarm. He didn't know it at the time, but this was the beginning of a mission to teach!

Working long hours at a bakery and developing the land the rest of the time, he realised this herb farm would be enough to keep 40 people busy, let alone one. The long hours also reminded him that the joy he found in learning and thinking needed to be honoured once again.

Herbal medicine had kindled an interest in natural therapies so formal studies in natural therapies started with Nutritional Consultant and Opthalmosomatic Analyst in 1982. This year, also saw commencement of studies in Computer Sciences with the Southland Polytechnic and in naturopathy with the Naturopathic College of New Zealand. It was also the year David founded the NZ College of Complementary Medicine in Invercargill teaching evening classes in anatomy and physiology, herbal medicine, iridology, nutrition, and reflexology.

1984 saw the seed of kinesiology planted with a Touch For Health - 1 course, that lead to more than 600 hours of clinical training in Educational, Magnetic Health, Optimal, and Professional Health Provider kinesiologies, and as Three-In-Once Concepts Course Facilitator.

It was also about 1984, that he attended his first rebirthing session. That seed however flourished in 1987 with the first of three Rebirther Pracitioner training courses attended, and the teaching of many evening and weekend classes.

1987 was the year of graduation as Naturopath and of his arrival a few days later at the Dunedin Centre of Natural Health to start a practice clinic. It was here that the computer was able to settle down and start printing the free newsletters which have continued to this day.

In 1991 two years of testing Golden Neo-Life Diamite Interational, culminated in taking Formula IV and Nourishake during some days of very little sleep while organising of a provincial Health Expo. During the opening hour when "everyone wanted everything" the benefit of increased physical support of the adrenals, heart and other organs by the semi-essential lipids, sterols, vitamins, minerals and amino-acids in the Formula IV was profoundly obvious. Knowing that these nutrients had been stripped from grains by genetic selection and milling, to the extent that 1/4 kilogram of today's dry grains is needed to make one capsule, David opted to continue on Formula IV and today he feels much younger for it. He remained as an independent distributor with the company, Golden Neo-Life Diamite International, until 2003.

1998 saw graduation as Remedial Body Therapist with the Naturopathic College of New Zealand, along with six other students to whom David had taught the anatomy and physiology component of the course, in Dunedin. It was also the year that David enroled in Anatomy, Chemistry and Physiology at Otago University. Having an E in earlier studies in 1974, David was surprised to get a B+ in the Chemistry in 1988, which he credited mostly to being a mature student and having done many brain gyms and stress defusions during kinesiology studies.

1989 saw the Dunedin emergence of the NZ College of Complementary Medicine, which became the National College of Medicine, and then the College of Health which closed in 1996, having awarded Diplomas in Massage, Naturopathy and Nutrition and taught the founding principal and trustee as much as anyone.

With much credit to the enthusiasm that the Anatomy Department had for its students, David completed his BSc in that subject in 1990.

In 1995, David returned to the cottage clinic that he had operated before the NZ College of Complementary Medicine and National College of Medicine. He found it easy to teach, once again, from the two rooms and hired larger spaces as needed. The Natural Health Centre was opened as a partnership with Lorraine Burlingham, and in 1998, it was moved to their home at 19 Ryehill St, Dunedin.

Teaching ocassionally at adult education centres, technical colleges, university, private training establishments, and on his own account he continues to get the word out there to as many people as possible.

He sees clients for Allergy Testing, Spherical Gemstone Therapy, Life Coaching, Massage, Naturopathy, and Rebirthing. His fascination is in treating the whole person - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Continuing education and practising professional membership as a Naturopath is maintained with the Association of Natural Therapies. Supervision is undertaken with Naturopaths once a month, and as a Rebirther, with Christchurch Rebirthers, when attending seminars in that city.

Living in Harmony Forest as he does her has an active interest in the preservation of New Zealand forest, deep ecology, and earth building; all of which he actively pursues and studies at Harmony Farm with volunteer students, and co-guardian, Lorraine.

He respects and honours the confidentiality of data relating to individual patients visiting his clinic and this website, including their identity, as described in the NZ Privacy Act and other medical and health information privacy laws that apply in New Zealand.

He currently holds Clinics at Carnegie Cottage, 197 Stuart St (half block up from Octagon), 9 Dowling St (beside public carpark), and Harmony Forest, 239 Waitati Valley Road.
